The Foundation's missions define what it is constitutionally obligated to pursue, maintaining the substrate's governance integrity, supporting the public interest in open coordination infrastructure, and holding operators to account.
Governance integrity
The Foundation's primary mission is to maintain the constitution as a living, authoritative document, one that is enforced by code, auditable by participants, and amended only through ratified process. Governance integrity is not a service offering; it is the Foundation's constitutional purpose and the basis of its legitimacy.
Public interest accountability
The substrate serves coordination across sectors that affect public life, civic infrastructure, health, energy, and finance among them. The Foundation's mission includes ensuring that the governance of this infrastructure remains transparent and accessible to the public and to regulators with a legitimate interest in it.
Open coordination commons
The Foundation is charged with preserving the substrate as a commons, infrastructure that any qualified operator may build on and that no single operator may enclose. This mission is constitutional, not aspirational, and is enforced by the non-enclosure floor embedded in the doctrine section.
